Gwangju Employers Federation (Chairman Yang Jinseok, Chairman of Howon Co., Ltd. and Happiness CC) announced on the 14th that it will hold the 1682nd Friday Breakfast Forum on the 18th, inviting former Gwangju Mayor Lee Yongseop as a special guest.
This special lecture, held under the theme "A Bigger and Stronger Gwangju," will also feature Lee Doyoung, Director of the Gwangju Regional Employment and Labor Office, a professional institution supporting labor and employment projects.
Currently serving as an advisor at Yulchon LLC, former Mayor Lee has held various positions, including 18th and 19th National Assembly member, the 20th Commissioner of the Korea Customs Service under the Kim Daejung administration, Chief Secretary for Innovation Management at the Presidential Office under the Roh Moo-hyun administration, the 14th Minister of Construction and Transportation, the 8th Minister of Government Administration and Home Affairs, the 14th Commissioner of the National Tax Service, and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Jobs under the Moon Jae-in administration.
During his tenure, former Mayor Lee successfully hosted the 2019 Gwangju World Aquatics Championships as a cost-effective and highly efficient international event and resolved the long-standing regional conflict over the construction of Gwangju Metro Line 2 through public consensus. He also promoted the Gwangju-type Job Project, a social grand compromise between labor and management, which led to the mass production of Casper, and attracted the National Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Complex as a project exempt from preliminary feasibility studies, among many other achievements.
In particular, advanced industries such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) were promoted during Lee's tenure. It is expected that, as the top priority pledge for Gwangju in the upcoming 21st presidential election on June 3, the new administration will be urged to provide extensive support for talent development, technology, and R&D investment.
Yang Jinseok, Chairman of the Gwangju Employers Federation, stated, "Former Mayor Lee laid a solid foundation for Gwangju to become the representative city of artificial intelligence and a leading city in future mobility before leaving office. This event will provide member companies and participants with valuable insights on various topics, including local job creation, revitalizing the regional economy, and strategies to respond to the trade war triggered by the Trump administration's tariff policies."
