Improvement of School Routes Near Seongdong Elementary Back Gate
Alleyway Environment Upgrades and Lighting Installation
Ulsan Ulju-gun is set to launch the 'Crime Prevention Urban Design Project' in the Seosaeng-myeon area to enhance resident safety.
'Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)' is an urban architectural design method that aims to prevent crime by improving urban environmental factors that could potentially induce criminal activity. Through this project, Ulju-gun plans to reorganize living spaces so that residents can live in a safer and more pleasant environment.

This year's project, marking its fourth year, will be carried out over an area of 45,000 square meters in Jinha-ri and Seosaeng-ri, Seosaeng-myeon. With a budget of 400 million won from the county, the detailed design will be completed within this month, and construction is scheduled to be carried out by the 10th of next month.
Previously, since May of last year, Ulju-gun formed a consultative body including local residents, Ulju Police Station, Gyeongnam Design-led Manufacturing Innovation Center, and urban design experts. Through crime data analysis, resident interviews, and field surveys, they derived crime prevention design solutions tailored to the area.
The construction will focus on areas closely related to residents' daily lives, such as the children's protection zone near the back gate of Seongdong Elementary School and village alleyways. The target area includes not only students of Seongdong Elementary School but also residents of Jinha-ri and Seosaeng-ri, as well as foreign workers, making it a central living area with high foot traffic.
In particular, as this region has low nighttime illumination, causing residents to feel discomfort and anxiety when moving around at night, improvements will be concentrated on creating a safer walking environment.
Main improvements include: △anti-slip pavement △new pedestrian paths △installation of safety fences △construction of one new crosswalk △installation of a 'safety bulletin board,' among others. Additionally, with alleyway environment maintenance, the village atmosphere will be brightened and made more pleasant through △pavement repairs and △painting of old walls.
For nighttime pedestrian safety, the project will significantly improve visibility at night by installing △22 solar-powered lights △6 gobo lights △9 wall-mounted mirrors △4 pole-mounted mirrors, and other lighting.
An Ulju-gun official stated, "The core of this project is not just to brighten dark areas, but to create an environment where residents can truly feel safe," adding, "We will prioritize safety in construction to create a village where everyone can live with peace of mind."
