'Safety Experience Event' Open to All at Songpa Safety Experience Education Center and Seokchon Lake on the 16th
Over 40 Disaster-Related Safety Programs Including Emergency Escape Devices, VR Experiences, and Fire and Crime Prevention
Amid a series of nationwide fires, Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that on the National Safety Day, April 16, it will hold the "Songpa Safety Experience Event" at the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center and around Seokchon Lake.
Since 2018, the district has held safety experience events every April 16 to provide residents with an opportunity to directly feel and reflect on the importance of safety in daily life.
This year, the event scale has been expanded to focus on accident prevention and response. The venue has been extended from the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center in Macheon-dong to Seokchon Lake. The number of programs has increased to about 40, making it richer than before. The event is operated with enhanced expertise through cooperation with 27 safety-related organizations from various sectors including fire, police, public, and private.
First, at the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center (53 Seongnaecheon-ro 35-gil), experiences mainly for children have been prepared. Utilizing the advanced facilities of the center, which boasts a cumulative visitor count of 880,000, the programs are designed to be enjoyed like an exploration. They include responses to vehicle, ship, railway, and airplane accidents and crowd congestion situations that resemble real scenarios, kickboard safety experiences, kidnapping prevention puppet shows, various crafts, and tattoo experiences.
With the falling cherry blossoms in the background, eight programs open to everyone will be held on the central waterside stage of Seokchon Lake East Lake. These include infectious disease and gas safety experiences, drunk goggles experience, emergency escape device experience, CPR and fire extinguisher training, and disaster experiences using virtual reality (VR). Twenty-one disaster site photos that raise awareness will be exhibited on-site.
The event is free and open to all without prior reservation. However, some programs at the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center, such as puppet shows and crafts, require advance reservation on a first-come, first-served basis. For other inquiries related to the event, contact the Songpa-gu Urban Safety Division.
Meanwhile, last year the district was externally recognized for its safety efforts by receiving the Prime Minister’s Award at the Safety Culture Awards and the Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation for Outstanding Institution in Intensive Safety Inspections. Throughout the year, it has conducted safety camps and education by visiting schools and vulnerable groups in the area, focusing on spreading a safety culture through facility maintenance and large-scale drills.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, "Urban safety is the top priority of local administration. We are carrying out district administration with special attention to safety," and added, "We have prepared a hands-on experience venue to directly respond to and prevent disasters so that even if unavoidable disasters occur, residents can quickly return to their daily lives. We hope for your great interest and participation."
