Nowon-gu Promotes Youth Growth Project 'Seongjangdonghaeng Youth Cafe' 사업

Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will promote the youth growth project 'Growth Together Youth Cafe'.

This is to address the emerging social issue of 'resting' youth.

According to Statistics Korea, as of February 2025, the number of 'resting' youth reached 500,000. 'Resting' youth refers to young people who are not seeking or employed without special reasons such as serious illness, childcare, housework, or commuting. Furthermore, if the resting period prolongs, it may lead to job search abandonment, decreased employment prospects, lowered self-esteem, and potentially develop into complex problems.

The youth growth project promoted by the district provides a comfortable space for youth to rest and offers tailored support such as career exploration, employment capability enhancement, and promotion of interaction among youth. The district was selected for a public contest project led by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and operates the project with a budget of 100 million KRW, including national funds.

The 'Youth Growth Project (Youth Cafe)' planned by the district focuses on providing effective support to help resting youth return to economic activities while restoring their confidence.

Operating the largest number of six youth centers among Seoul’s autonomous districts, the district plans to maximize the use of related infrastructure centered on the district-run Nowon Youth Policy Governance Center and Youth Sharing Center Youth Sympathy.

Starting in May and running through the end of the year, this project will be carried out through ▲initial counseling ▲tailored counseling ▲customized career design ▲customized networking ▲customized education for young social beginners. To effectively identify and provide the support needed for each youth, initial counseling, tailored counseling, and customized career design programs are mandatory.

During this process, participating youth will be exposed to various support policies they need and receive psychological stability and career aptitude assistance through understanding their 'authentic self.' The district plans to continue monitoring and follow-up management after the program ends and strengthen the youth rights promotion system by linking with the youth regional participation organization 'Nowon Youth Policy Network.'

Youth who wish to participate in the Youth Growth Project (Youth Cafe) can apply through the Nowon-gu Office website or the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s Employment24 platform.

District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, "Helping youth regain confidence and stand proudly as members of society is a core part of various youth policies," adding, "We will create a day where youth can breathe freely based on local resources and infrastructure."
