The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage
to Hold Third 'Heritage Open House' in Daejeon
Experience Modern Architectural Heritage and Repair Techniques
The National Heritage Agency's National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage announced on the 14th that it will hold a 'Heritage Open House' in Daejeon, where participants can hear stories about modern architectural heritage.
This is an on-site tour program that explores related technologies from an architectural perspective. It is part of the 'Research on Repair Techniques for Modern Architectural Heritage (Brick Structures)' promoted by the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, and it is the third event following last year’s tours in Seoul and Gunsan. The program shares accumulated repair technique information from the maintenance and restoration processes of modern architectural heritage and provides actual repair and restoration cases to architecture majors and the general public.
This year’s tour targets five sites: the former Dongyang Cheoksik Company Daejeon Branch (1922, currently Heredium), the former Chungcheong Branch of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service (1958, currently Daejeon Creation Center), Daeheung-dong Catholic Church (1962), the former Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Government Official Residence (1930s-1940s, currently Temi Orae), and the former Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Government Main Building (1932, currently Daejeon Modern and Contemporary History Exhibition Hall). Participants can hear stories about the history, repair processes, and preservation techniques of each architectural heritage site from Professor Changmo An of Kyonggi University and Professor Sanghee Lee of Mokwon University.
The institute limits the number of participants to twenty general citizens and fifteen architecture students. Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 2 p.m. on the 15th through the Korea National Trust website. Participation is free of charge.
