Two-Day School Closure for Safety Inspection at Elementary School Near Gwangmyeong Accident Site

Due to the collapse accident at the Sinansan Line underground tunnel construction site in Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi Province, a nearby elementary school will be closed for two days for safety inspections.

According to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education on the 13th, Elementary School A near the accident site decided to close for two days from the 14th to the 15th and informed parents of this through a home correspondence letter on the same day.


Elementary School A held a countermeasure council meeting the previous day with the Ministry of Education's Facility Safety Team, Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, Gwangmyeong Education Support Office, and Gwangmyeong City Hall, and after deliberation by the School Management Council, decided to close the school. The academic schedule after the closure will be determined based on the results of the safety inspection scheduled for that day.


Earlier, at around 3:13 PM on the 11th, a collapse occurred at the underground tunnel construction site of Section 5-2 of the Sinansan Line double-track railway in Iljik-dong, Gwangmyeong-si, being constructed by POSCO E&C, along with the upper road.


As a result of this accident, out of 19 workers, two were trapped and missing respectively, and the missing excavator operator in his 20s was rescued after about 13 hours. The remaining missing person, Mr. A, in his 50s, affiliated with POSCO E&C, has not yet been located, and his survival status remains unknown.
