Chinese Ambassador: "If there had been no Chinese counterattack, the US tariff exemption would not have happened"

"Tariff Suspension Decided Thanks to China's Counterattack"
Represents Chinese Authorities' Stance Despite No Mention of South Korea

Dai Bing, the Chinese Ambassador to South Korea, claimed that the 90-day suspension of reciprocal tariffs by U.S. President Donald Trump was decided thanks to China's counterattack and deterrence. Ambassador Dai assumed his post in December last year, following the departure of former Ambassador Xing Haiming in July.

On the 11th, Ambassador Dai stated on his social media, "Do not forget. Without China's resolute counterattack and deterrence, this 90-day suspension period would not have existed at all." He then questioned the tariff suspension decision, asking, "Can we call this a good thing?" and emphasized, "Remember, this is just a 90-day suspension."

These remarks appear to represent the overall stance of the Chinese authorities amid the escalating U.S.-China tariff war. However, Ambassador Dai's post did not specifically mention South Korea.

Ambassador Dai also posted a video showing a sheep labeled "United States" charging at and then retreating from a sheep labeled "China." The video included the phrase "人不犯我 我不犯人 人若犯我 我必回擊" (If others do not offend me, I will not offend them; if others offend me, I will surely retaliate).

Meanwhile, the Trump administration announced plans to impose reciprocal tariffs on various countries. However, within about 13 hours, it declared that for over 70 countries, including South Korea but excluding China, the reciprocal tariffs would be suspended for 90 days, and only a basic 10% tariff would be applied.

On the 9th, President Trump posted on his social media that he would "immediately raise tariffs to 125%" on China in response to China's additional countermeasures against U.S. reciprocal tariffs. He added, "Hopefully, at some point in the near future, China will realize that the days of exploiting the United States and other countries are no longer sustainable or acceptable."
