Emergency Stop of Paju Gyeongui-Jungang Line Train...110 Evacuated, 2 Slightly Injured

At around 3:30 PM on the 11th, an electric train heading toward Munsan near Wollong Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, made an emergency stop. The train is estimated to have partially derailed, and all 110 passengers evacuated on their own.

According to Korail, the accident occurred at around 3:30 PM that day. The train in operation detected an abnormality on the track and made an emergency stop. The exact cause of the accident is currently under investigation. The site was confirmed to be near the end of the Gyeongui-Jungang Line track (Track 8) between Wollong Station and Geumchon Station.


According to the Northern Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters, six vehicles including command cars and 16 rescue personnel were urgently dispatched to the scene. Two passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital by private vehicles, and no other casualties have been reported.

A temporary emergency medical center was set up, and the quarantine checkpoint support team is operating two buses to transfer passengers to nearby locations.


A Korail official stated, "One track toward Munsan is being used to operate trains in both directions temporarily, while the other tracks are currently out of service."


The railway mobile team is currently investigating the exact derailment status and cause.


Following the accident, Paju City sent a safety message stating, "A derailment accident has occurred on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line from Munsan to Seoul direction, and operations are suspended. Passengers using the Gyeongui-Jungang Line from Munsan to Seoul are advised to use alternative transportation."
