Handonghun Targets Lee Jaemyung: "We Must Seize Opportunities in the Tariff War... Not the Time to Give 250,000 Won to All Citizens"

Han Holds Meeting with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Partners in Ulsan

Former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon visited Ulsan, South Korea's heavy industry city, on the 11th and emphasized, "What our politics should focus on is not martial law or impeachment, but how to revive our driving force and seize opportunities amid the tariff war situation."

After making this statement at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and shipbuilding industry partners meeting held at Hotel Hyundai by Lahan Ulsan in Dong-gu, Ulsan City that afternoon, former leader Han said, "I believe politics and business have a comradely relationship that aims to improve the lives of the people and pursue a developing future together. I came here with the determination to engage in such politics."

Former leader Han stressed that in order to survive the tariff war initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump, politics and government must join forces, and political conflicts or populist policies should be avoided. He criticized former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung's proposal for "25,000 won support for all citizens," saying, "Now is absolutely not the time for politics to step in and say, 'Let's give out money,' or 'Let's distribute gift certificates.'"

Having pledged to increase the middle class to 70%, former leader Han also stated, "I engage in politics with the goal of creating a country with a growing middle class," adding, "Ultimately, the key is 'growth,' and growth will be achieved through the development of Korea's core industries such as shipbuilding and automobiles, followed by the growth of other related industries."

At the meeting, lawmakers Seo Beom-su, Woo Jae-jun, Jin Jong-oh, and Han Ji-a were present. From the shipbuilding industry side, Noh Jin-yul, president of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Lee Mu-deok, chairman of the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries In-house Partner Association, attended.

On a two-day, one-night trip visiting Ulsan and Busan, former leader Han visited an automobile parts manufacturer in Ulsan that morning and met with workers. When asked by reporters why he chose Ulsan as his first visit after declaring his presidential bid, former leader Han replied, "The purpose is to accurately understand the difficult situation of the industry under the Trump tariff situation in Ulsan, the heart of shipbuilding and automobiles, and to show what our politics should do."

Former leader Han plans to visit the Saewool Nuclear Power Headquarters in the afternoon and then move to Busan to meet with citizens.
