Discussion on Key Issues Ahead of the Presidential Election

"Strict Crackdown on Election Campaigning by Senior Officials Targeting Subordinate Public Servants" Bang Gi-seon, Director of the National Office for Government Policy Coordination, Yonhap News Agency

On the 11th, the government held a meeting of auditors from central administrative agencies at the Seoul Government Complex, chaired by Bang Gi-seon, Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, to discuss key initiatives to be pursued until the presidential election scheduled for June 3.

The meeting was attended by auditors from 49 central administrative agencies (19 ministries, 6 commissions, 20 offices, 3 agencies, and the Office for Government Policy Coordination). The auditors agreed to strengthen agency-specific education and self-inspection activities to ensure the political neutrality of public officials.

In particular, they decided to strictly crack down on violations of political neutrality by public officials, such as high-ranking officials engaging in election campaigns targeting subordinate public servants, promoting the achievements of specific parties or candidates, or participating in political activities. They also committed to fostering a working atmosphere within the public service to prevent any inconvenience to the public in areas closely related to daily life.

Furthermore, they plan to take strict measures against any detected misconduct that undermines trust as public officials, including lax discipline, inappropriate behavior, sexual misconduct, and acceptance of money or entertainment.
