Japanese director Miyake Sho's new film "Travel and Days" (working title) is set to be released domestically this December, announced the distributor Et9 Film on the 11th.
Director Miyake has been consecutively invited to the Berlin International Film Festival with "Your Bird Can Sing" (2020), "When I Look Into Your Eyes" (2022), and "All of Dawn" (2024), and is regarded as a young master leading the Japanese film industry, having swept major film awards such as the Mainichi Film Concours and Kinema Junpo.
"Travel and Days" depicts the life changes and emotional connections experienced through a strange encounter with "Benzo" (Tsutsumi Shinichi) and nature during a trip to a snow-covered mountain resort, written by screenwriter "Lee" (Shim Eun-kyung).
Shim Eun-kyung, who plays the lead role, said, "This is the most captivating script I have read in years," adding, "I want to offer the audience an experience as if they are traveling together through the film."
Actor Tsutsumi Shinichi said, "It will be a work that strangely brings peace to the heart and makes you smile slightly."
The film is based on the classic manga "Seascape of the Shore" and "Ben-san of Honyara Cave (ほんやら洞のべんさん)" by Tsuge Yoshiharu. Director Miyake expressed confidence, saying, "The original work is so interesting that it even made me want to run away sometimes out of awe," and "I am sure a completely new film will be born."
