Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs to Visit the U.S. from 12th to 14th... Paying Tribute to UN Veterans

Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Kang Jeong-ae will visit Washington DC, USA, from June 12 to 14 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Korean War and the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day. The visit aims to pay respects to UN war veterans and inspect historic sites related to the independence movement.


According to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs on the 11th, Minister Kang will visit a veterans nursing home in Washington DC on June 12 (local time) to console Korean War veterans. The nursing home houses 43 Korean War veterans.


On the 13th, she will pay tribute and lay flowers at the Korean War Veterans Memorial Park located on the National Mall, and meet Bernard Champoux, former commander of the US 8th Army and vice chairman of the Korean War Veterans Memorial Foundation, to discuss international veterans cooperation measures.


On the 14th, she will visit Arlington National Cemetery to lay flowers and pay respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the graves of Generals Walton Walker and Ben Fleet, who distinguished themselves during the Korean War. She will then meet Curtis Scaparrotti, president of the US Forces Korea Veterans Association, to discuss ways to strengthen the Korea-US alliance.


She is also scheduled to visit local independence movement historic sites such as the Korean Empire Legation and the Gumi Committee.


Minister Kang stated, "The United States was the closest blood ally that dispatched the largest number of troops and made the greatest sacrifices for Korea during the Korean War. We will express our gratitude to the American veterans at the center of this blood alliance and the US Forces Korea to further strengthen the Korea-US alliance."
