Wando County to Invest 3.6 Billion Won This Year to Create Forest Healing Complex

Construction Begins on 26 Campsites and 8 Forest Cabins

Wando County in Jeonnam has officially begun the development of a forest healing complex. On the 11th, the county announced that it will invest 3.6 billion KRW to create a 'Forest Campsite' harmonized with nature on a total area of 7.9 hectares at 214-1 Gayong-ri, Wando-eup, and one additional plot.

This project aims to provide a space where visitors can enjoy both relaxation and forest healing while staying in the woods. The site will feature 26 campsites and 8 forest cabins.

The 'Forest Campsite' is an eco-friendly camping facility designed to preserve the forest as much as possible, allowing for camping with tents, camper vans, and more. Its main feature is to minimize forest damage while offering a comfortable environment for visitors to stay within the woods.

Currently, there are a total of 45 forest campsites nationwide (3 national, 10 public, and 32 private). In Jeonnam, following Gubongsan in Gwangyang and Unpyeong in Seomyeon, Suncheon, Wando is the third to receive approval for such a site. The county plans to begin construction this month, complete it in December, and officially open in March next year.

Through this project, the county expects to enhance the value of forest land use and boost regional tourism competitiveness by creating a unique forest recreation facility that reflects local characteristics.

Park Eunjae, Director of Forest Recreation, said, "Starting with this forest campsite, we plan to sequentially develop a natural recreation forest, a healing forest, and forest leisure sports facilities," adding, "We will do our utmost to make the Wando-eup area a renowned destination for forest and marine healing."
