The committee is a public-private cooperative advisory body composed of 16 experts from 10 fields including mental health, youth, family welfare, police, domestic violence, child abuse, housing, law, employment, and medical care, established by the city to prepare professional and practical support measures for families facing severe crises.
At the meeting held for the first time this year, a total of 27 participants including committee members, the city’s Hope Welfare Division, and officials from eight neighborhood administrative welfare centers discussed case-by-case solutions.
The meeting newly discussed a case involving a household at high risk of suicide due to alcohol addiction and economic difficulties. Three cases previously addressed in earlier meetings ? a household with a mother suffering from dementia and a child with intellectual disabilities, an undocumented foreign mother and child household, and a household at high risk of suicide due to caregiving by the mother ? were reported as post-monitoring cases.
Based on the measures discussed at the meeting, the city plans to establish customized support and a sustainable response system for families in crisis.
Joo Kyung-hee, chairperson of the Solution Committee and professor of social welfare at Hanshin University, said, "The more complex the problems, the more important the involvement of experts and public-private cooperation is," adding, "I hope the solutions proposed by the committee will help families in crisis."
