80th Anniversary of Liberation, Massive Exhibition of Independence Movement Materials... Seoul Auction Presents Han Yong-un's 'Simwusong' Folding Screen Manhae Han Yong-un 'Simwoosong (尋牛頌)'. Seoul Auction

This art auction includes the 'Simwoosong' folding screen by Manhae Han Yong-un, a religious figure who sought to awaken the spirit of Joseon through Buddhism and a poet who sang the desire for national independence through literature. This folding screen is a rare 10-panel masterpiece showcasing the typical calligraphic style of Manhae’s later years. The work is designated as a cultural heritage material by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

For the first time ever, the handwritten work 'Nokjuk' by independence activist Ahn Jung-geun will be auctioned. 'Nokjuk,' meaning 'green bamboo,' symbolizes Ahn Jung-geun’s unwavering integrity and loyalty before his execution in February 1910. Also featured is the first edition of 'Sky, Wind, Star, and Poem,' the posthumous poetry collection by Yun Dong-ju, a leading resistance poet during the Japanese colonial period. This year marks the 80th anniversary of Yun Dong-ju’s passing, who died just six months before Korea’s liberation.

Several documents related to Japanese imperial aggression will also be unveiled. These include a collection of diplomatic documents related to the 'Joseon-Japan Treaty of Amity' (commonly known as the Ganghwa Treaty), which contains written exchanges between officials of both countries during the treaty’s conclusion, and the 'Far East International Military Tribunal Transcript Volumes 1-349,' which records the war crimes trials held in Tokyo after Japan’s defeat. Newly discovered original transcripts from the first to sixth sessions add significant historical value to the materials.

Works by prominent modern and contemporary artists from Korea and abroad will also be introduced. The representative work 'Issu du Feu' (From Fire) by artist Lee Bae, a large-scale piece over 2 meters tall, will be auctioned, along with a bronze sculpture composed of connected charcoal lumps seeking a new owner. Park Soo-keun’s 'Magnolia' is one of the posthumous works exhibited in a memorial exhibition held after the artist’s death.

Yayoi Kusama’s 2018 work 'Infinity Nets (LFVUK)' features a yellow background filled with red lines, presenting a striking combination of colors. The 60-ho size canvas is covered with delicate and dense nets, expressing the artist’s unique interpretation of infinity and transcendence.
