Highlighting the Independence Activism of Kim Gyusik
on the Provisional Government Establishment Day
Professor Seokyungdeok from Sungshin Women's University announced the release of a video about independence activist Kim Gyusik, produced together with actor Kim Namgil.
On the 11th, Professor Seokyungdeok said, "The 2-minute video released to coincide with the establishment day of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea highlights various independence movements of Kim Gyusik."
The video details Kim Gyusik’s dispatch to the Paris Peace Conference in June 1919, where he appealed to the international community for Korea’s independence, as well as his activities as the Vice President of the Provisional Government in 1944.
Kim Namgil, who participated in the narration of the video, said, "I am glad to convey Kim Gyusik’s achievements through my voice, and I hope many netizens will watch it."
Professor Seokyungdeok added, "To mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day this year, we plan to produce a series of videos showcasing the activities of key figures of the Provisional Government to widely inform the public."
This video was produced as part of the 'Liberation 80th Anniversary Donation Campaign' jointly conducted by the three major mobile carriers and Professor Seokyungdeok, and is provided through 'V Coloring.'
When V Coloring customers set this video as their visible coloring, donations will be made to 'Gyeonggyojang,' the last government building of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, to be used for improving the exhibition environment. Additionally, some customers who participate in the donation will be selected and invited to the 'Independence Movement Historical Site Exploration Group' with Professor Seokyungdeok, scheduled for August.
Meanwhile, April 11, 1919, marks the establishment day of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. The Provisional Government declared a democratic republic in Shanghai, China, to resist Japan’s infringement on national sovereignty and to gain independence from colonial rule. It specified citizens’ freedoms and equality rights, proclaiming itself not just as an independence movement organization but as the government of an independent nation.
The first article of the 'Provisional Charter of the Republic of Korea' declared by the Provisional Government states, "The Republic of Korea shall be a democratic republic," which was inherited through the 1948 Constitution and the current Constitution. The preamble of the Constitution explicitly states that it "inherits the legal tradition of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea."
