A fire broke out at an apiary in Hwasun, Jeonnam, resulting in the death of a man in his 80s.
According to the Hwasun Fire Station on the 11th, at around 2:02 p.m. the previous day, a fire started in a field in Dogok-myeon, Hwasun County. An elderly man in his 80s suffered third-degree burns over his entire body and was transported to the hospital, but ultimately passed away.
The fire authorities believe that sparks from a smoker used in beekeeping ignited the surrounding grass. The fire destroyed two beehive frames and also killed the bees inside the hives, resulting in property damage estimated at 1.25 million won.
The fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the unattended smoker.
