Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation in the group category of the '2024 Intensive Safety Inspection Meritorious Service' evaluation hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, gaining external recognition for its status as a safe city.

'Intensive Safety Inspection' is an annual project led by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to preemptively check for safety hazards across society, eliminate safety blind spots, and prevent disasters and safety accidents.

This award was the result of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety evaluating all government agencies and local governments and selecting organizations recognized for their significant contributions to preventing safety accidents. Seven institutions nationwide were selected, and among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul, Songpa-gu was the only recipient.

The district conducted intensive safety inspections on a total of 78 private multi-use facilities, including senior centers mainly used by vulnerable groups in the area, children's facilities, and traditional markets in 2024.

Over the past five years, a total of 1,164 safety-related facilities have been inspected, recognizing the district's relentless efforts to create a city where residents can live safely and securely 24 hours a day.

In particular, the major achievements highlighted were ▲ proactively identifying risk factors through joint inspections with specialized private safety experts (such as the Songpa-gu Safety Management Advisory Group) tailored to each facility ▲ ensuring administrative continuity and reliability by clearly implementing follow-up measures such as facility repairs and reinforcements after inspections.

Additionally, the district made every effort to prevent safety accidents by ▲ conducting special inspections targeting reconstruction construction sites, 51 religious facilities with spires, Olympic Park, and children's playgrounds ▲ carrying out innovative and efficient inspections using advanced information and communication technology such as AI autonomous robots.

Furthermore, the district received excellent evaluations for securing citizen safety through intensive safety inspections before and after local festivals with large visitor numbers, such as the spring lake cherry blossom festival and the Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "This achievement is the result of the district's efforts to protect residents' lives and safety by moving away from repetitive safety inspections and promoting proactive and innovative inspections." He added, "We will continue to carefully monitor safety in residents' daily lives and do our best to create 'Songpa, a city safe 24 hours a day.'"
