Check Flood Prevention Facility Instructions by Scanning QR Codes with Your Smartphone Camera
QR Codes Attached to Flood-Prone Homes, Including Semi-Basement Units and Those with Past Flood Damage
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) has introduced and begun pilot operation of the 'Flood Prevention Facility QR Code System,' enabling any resident to easily prepare for flood damage.
Since 2011, the district has completed the installation of flood prevention facilities such as water barriers and backflow prevention devices in 8,758 households at risk of flooding, including semi-basement units and homes with past flood damage experiences.
Semi-basement households, mainly occupied by tenants, often face difficulties in managing flood prevention facilities and understanding their usage due to frequent tenant changes.
Accordingly, the district attached QR codes to flood prevention facilities installed in flood-prone homes such as semi-basements. By scanning the QR code with a smartphone camera, residents can easily access guidance on the ▲installation ▲usage ▲management of each flood prevention facility.
In particular, the district expects that residents unfamiliar with using and managing flood prevention facilities, such as the elderly and housewives, will be able to easily check how to use the facilities through the QR codes, improving initial response rates in semi-basement homes during heavy rain forecasts.
The district plans to add instructional videos on flood prevention facilities within the QR codes in the future. For more details about the flood prevention facility QR code system, please contact the Water Management Division of Gwanak-gu Office.
Additionally, the district plans to produce 'SOS Help Request Stickers (magnetic type)' containing emergency contact information for the district office’s comprehensive situation room, police stations, fire stations, etc., and prioritize distribution to disaster-vulnerable households to prepare for emergencies such as safety accidents.
Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, stated, "This flood prevention facility QR code guidance service is an example of 'resident-participatory smart administration' that supports convenient use of flood prevention facilities by residents. We will continue to integrate information and communication technology (ICT) to more efficiently protect residents' lives and create a safe daily life."
