China says "Dialogue door open... Mutual respect is a prerequisite" toward US amid 'tariff bomb' dispute

China has expressed a willingness to communicate despite the United States' 125% 'tariff bomb,' but it set mutual respect as a prerequisite. Additionally, China stated that if the U.S. continues the tariff war, it will take retaliatory measures.

Huo Yongqian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce, said at a regular briefing on the 10th, "Pressure, threats, and intimidation are not the right way to do business with China," adding, "The door to dialogue is open, but it must proceed on the basis of mutual respect and equality."

Spokesperson Huo stated, "China strongly condemns and firmly opposes the U.S. tariffs," and "China will steadfastly promote high-level external openness despite the U.S.'s coercive tariffs." He also explained that measures to support Chinese export companies affected by U.S. tariffs in expanding their domestic market channels are under consideration.

Lin Zhen, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, criticized the U.S. tariffs for undermining the stability of the global economic order. He said, "The United States has seriously infringed upon the legitimate rights and interests of various countries for its own benefit and violated World Trade Organization (WTO) rules," adding, "(The U.S.) has seriously damaged the rules-based multilateral trading system."

Furthermore, he stated, "If the United States insists on tariff and trade wars, ignoring the interests of both China and the international community, China will fight back to the end."

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump raised tariffs on China to 125%. China also imposed an additional 84% tariff on U.S. imports as retaliation.
