64% Say Impeachment of Yoon Was the Right Decision
Democratic Party 34%, People Power Party 33%

In a public opinion poll asking about the next presidential candidate, former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung ranked first. Regarding the Constitutional Court's decision to impeach former President Yoon Seok-yeol, the majority opinion was that it was a well-made decision.


According to the National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted from the 7th to the 9th by Embrain Public, K-STATS Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research (surveyed 1,001 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide via mobile phone interviews; margin of error ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level; response rate 24.9%), in a suitability survey for the next president conducted by mentioning several candidates, former leader Lee was surveyed at 32%. Former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo received 12%, Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo 7%, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon 5%, and former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon 5%.

Among Democratic Party supporters (341 respondents), Lee's support rate was 73%, while among People Power Party supporters (334 respondents), former Minister Kim had the highest support at 29%.


Regarding the Constitutional Court's impeachment of former President Yoon, 64% of respondents viewed it as a "well-made ruling." Those who thought it was a "wrong ruling" accounted for 28%. Regarding acceptance of the Constitutional Court's impeachment judgment, 74% of respondents said they accept it, while 23% said they do not. Trust in the Constitutional Court rose to 69%, up 23 percentage points from the previous week. Regarding democracy after the impeachment judgment, 45% believed it would develop, 29% said there would be little change, and 21% said it would regress.


Regarding the relationship between the People Power Party and former President Yoon, 50% believed that he should be expelled from the party and that political relations should be sorted out. Those who thought a neutral stance should be maintained accounted for 27%, and those who believed he should be supported politically accounted for 18%.

Regarding Acting President Han's performance in state affairs, 56% of respondents thought he would do well, while 37% thought he would do poorly.


Regarding the presidential election landscape, 48% of the public opinion favored an opposition candidate winning. Those who believed the current administration should be re-elected accounted for 37%. The opinion favoring regime change fell by 3 percentage points compared to last week, while the opinion favoring regime continuation rose by 4 percentage points.


Party support rates were 34% for the Democratic Party, 33% for the People Power Party, 6% for the Joseon Innovation Party, and 2% for the Reform New Party.
