Won: "I Will Play My Part for Victory in the Presidential Election"
Former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong announced on the 9th that he will not run in the early presidential election on June 3.
On the same day, Won posted on his Facebook, "The Yoon Seok-yeol administration, in which I participated as the head of the policy headquarters of the presidential election campaign committee and as the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, has faced presidential impeachment. I also bear a great responsibility," declaring his intention not to run.
He also said, "I desperately warned that if the party and government were divided through the last party convention, everyone would perish, but I could not prevent it," bowing his head and saying, "It is because of my shortcomings."
Furthermore, he added, "I will not run in the presidential election to fulfill my responsibilities," and "I will take any role necessary for party unity and public support to achieve victory in the presidential election."
About ten people, including Assemblyman Ahn Cheol-soo, former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, former Representative Han Dong-hoon, Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, former Assemblyman Yoo Seung-min, and Governor of Gyeongbuk Lee Cheol-woo, have announced their intention to run or declared their presidential bids. Former Minister Won has also been classified as a potential presidential candidate within the People Power Party.
