Student representatives from four of the 'Big 5' medical schools?Yonsei University, Sungkyunkwan University, Catholic University, and Ulsan University?excluding Seoul National University, as well as Korea University College of Medicine, continue their struggle.
On the 9th, representatives from the five medical schools issued a joint statement saying, "We respect the direction of the struggle set by the Korean Medical Students Association (KMSA) and will continue the fight."
They stated, "Our will to fight remains strong," adding, "Unresolved issues remain as they are, and due to the government's deliberate delay tactics, the disruption of education across all medical schools is prolonged, and a decline in the quality of future medical care is anticipated." They further said, "We want to know who is responsible for the disruption in medical education and clinical practice, when and by whom the resolution began, and whether the quality of medical care can be maintained."
The student representatives said, "We have yet to receive a responsible answer, nor have we heard any promise to provide one," and declared, "We clearly state our united position."
New students of Ajou University College of Medicine also declared a boycott of classes this semester through a post titled "Statement from the Class of 2025, Ajou University College of Medicine" on the social media account of the Ajou University College of Medicine Emergency Response Committee at 12 a.m. on the same day.
However, among the Big 5, students of Seoul National University College of Medicine agreed to attend classes, and it is reported that all second- and third-year students took the first exam.
In this situation, it is reported that most medical schools have sent or plan to send notices of expected failure to students who are absent from all classes.
