The Jeonnam RE100 and Distributed Energy Activation Support Center, which will be responsible for establishing a renewable energy trading platform, officially opened on the 9th and began full-scale operations.

Located within the Green Energy Research Institute, the center will focus on: ▲ Establishing and operating a renewable energy trading (PPA) platform ▲ Supporting the designation of specialized zones for distributed energy with price competitiveness ▲ Discovering new energy businesses based on artificial intelligence and information and communication technology (AI·ICT) and supporting promising startups.

Notably, Jeonnam is the largest producer of renewable energy in Korea, equipped with the nation's top solar and offshore wind power potential and facilities. Amidst the global energy transition, it is attracting attention as an optimal investment destination for domestic and international companies seeking to secure clean energy.

Jeonnam Province plans to reorganize the personnel and functions of the Distributed Energy Activation Task Force, established at the Green Energy Research Institute in April last year, and fully operate the support center as a dedicated institution to promote RE100 and distributed energy activation in the province.

The renewable energy trading platform will serve as an intermediary so that local renewable energy power plants can be used as stable RE100 power sources for companies in the Jeonnam region. It is scheduled for pilot operation in the second half of this year.

Additionally, the center plans to actively discover new energy business models and promising startups by integrating local distributed energy resources with artificial intelligence and information and communication technology. Efforts will also focus on expanding the designation of specialized zones for distributed energy to attract advanced companies such as data centers.

The opening ceremony was attended by Park Changhwan, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Jeonnam Province, as well as representatives from Hyundai Samho, BS Industry, MC Energy, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Korea Energy Agency, Korea Testing Laboratory, Jeonnam Technopark, and about 30 other local companies and related organizations, who celebrated the launch of the center and held a roundtable discussion.

During the roundtable, participants discussed the role and operational direction of the support center and reached a consensus on actively cooperating for the implementation of RE100 and the activation of distributed energy in the province going forward.

Vice Governor Park Changhwan stated, "Jeonnam has industrial conditions optimized for building RE100 and distributed energy systems," adding, "Going forward, we will take the lead in attracting advanced industries such as the AI Supercluster Hub by supporting local companies' implementation of RE100 and establishing a foundation for distributed energy activation."

FIR HILLS, a party to the MOA for the establishment of the Solaseado AI Supercluster Hub signed in February, has shown great interest in realizing RE100 through renewable energy trading (PPA).
