"Protecting Residents' Lives and Property
Through Prevention and Management"
Gokseong County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Cho Sangrae) announced on the 9th that it is conducting a comprehensive inspection of 235 vulnerable areas this month to prevent landslide damage caused by weakened ground during the thawing season and heavy rainfall in the summer.
The main inspection targets include slopes and cut slopes near residential areas, areas at risk of falling rocks, and other locations where there is a danger to human life. These areas are patrolled regularly, and risk factors for landslides are being removed in advance through the clearing of obstructive trees and maintenance of drainage channels.
Residents have been informed in advance about evacuation shelters and routes, and the "National Landslide Action Guidelines" have been promoted to minimize casualties and property damage in the event of a landslide.
The county plans to complete the comprehensive inspection of vulnerable areas before the summer landslide response period begins, and will operate a landslide site prevention team from May to October to strengthen patrols and inspections.
In addition, by the rainy season, the county will complete work on seven check dams, stream conservation, and mountain area protection projects to minimize the risk of summer landslides, and will conduct surveys in areas with potential landslide risk to identify and manage additional vulnerable locations.
A county official stated, "With the recent increase in localized heavy rainfall and overall precipitation, the risk of landslides has risen. We will do our utmost to protect the lives and property of our residents through thorough prevention and management."
