Commendations for Leaders, Fundraising Campaign, and Capacity-Building Education Held
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on the 9th that the Changwon Saemaeul Association held the "15th Saemaeul Day Commemoration Ceremony and the 55th Anniversary of the Saemaeul Movement" at Hotel International Changwon.
This event was held under the theme "Together Saemaeul, To the World and the Future," and was attended by over 200 people, including Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, Son Taehwa, Chairman of the Changwon Special City Council, and Saemaeul leaders.
The ceremony included a commendation for Seo Junguk, former president of the Changwon branch of Saemaeul Library, who contributed to the development of the Saemaeul Library for over four years, as well as awards from the Mayor of Changwon, the City Council Chairman, the Saemaeul Central Association, and the Provincial President to 17 Saemaeul leaders who devoted themselves to community service.
Additionally, a fundraising campaign was conducted to support areas in the Yeongnam region affected by large-scale wildfires, with Saemaeul leaders voluntarily participating to further the spirit of sharing.
There was also an awareness improvement education session aimed at redefining the role of the Saemaeul Movement in line with changing times. On site, Saemaeul leaders were seen focusing on strengthening their capabilities through practical law and leadership training.
In his commemorative address, Hong Panchul, President of the Changwon Saemaeul Association, stated, "Based on the core spirit of the Saemaeul Movement?diligence, self-help, and cooperation?we will continue to communicate and cooperate with Changwon City this year and take the lead in community development."
Acting Mayor Jang expressed, "On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Saemaeul Movement and the 15th Saemaeul Day, I deeply appreciate the dedication of all the leaders. I hope you will continue to play a vital role for a better community and a better world."
Meanwhile, Saemaeul Day was designated as a national holiday in 2011 to encourage public support and participation in the Saemaeul Movement, which has been ongoing since 1970. This year marks its 15th anniversary.
