"I Stepped Forward to Defeat Lee Jaemyung"
Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, announced on the 9th that he will run for the 21st presidential election.
On the same day, Lee held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office and stated, "This presidential election is a desperate battle over whether to protect the system or not," adding, "Unless a new figure emerges and wins in the primary, causing a major upset, it will be difficult to win the presidential election."
He also emphasized, "I have stepped forward to defeat former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung," and described himself as "a new figure who can beat Lee Jae-myung with a firm national perspective, patriotism, solid capability, and experience."
He continued, "If elected president, I will serve only three years, stepping down in time for the 2028 general election," and said, "I will open the 7th Republic of cooperative governance through a decentralized constitutional amendment."
Lee pledged, "I will inherit the spirit of national reform designed and implemented by former President Park Chung-hee and promote ten major national transformations," adding, "I will become the 'new Park Chung-hee.'"
He criticized former leader Lee Jae-myung, saying, "He covers up his criminal charges by any means necessary," and accused him of "now trying to become president to manipulate the people with petty money."
