Gwangju Transportation Corporation (President Jo Ikmun) has strengthened the safety of city subway users by conducting special inspections of stations and surrounding facilities to prevent ground subsidence accidents, which have been occurring frequently in recent times.

The corporation announced on the 9th that it had recently conducted a comprehensive survey of all structures and nearby ground along Subway Line 1. The inspection, which took place over eight days starting from the 31st of last month, focused on checking the inflow of soil and rainwater into the external ventilation shafts of the stations.

Notably, on the 7th, President Jo Ikmun personally carried out a thorough inspection of major station facilities with high pedestrian traffic, such as Songjeong Park Station, Uncheon Station, and Geumnamno 5-ga Station, drawing attention for the rigorous nature of the checks.

The survey results showed that the management of key structures related to ground subsidence, including station ventilation shafts and external elevators, was generally in good condition. The corporation plans to further strengthen the prevention of safety accidents near stations through ongoing on-site inspections.

President Jo Ikmun stated, "In accordance with relevant laws, we conduct annual underground safety inspections as well as four special on-site inspections of subway construction sites each year," adding, "We will continue to take proactive safety measures to thoroughly prepare for any disasters."
