"Calling for a Two-Candidate Primary Is Armchair Theorizing by Those
Who Don't Understand the Presidential Race"
Hong Joon-pyo, the mayor of Daegu who officially declared his presidential bid, argued on the 9th that "the primary should proceed as a one-shot four-candidate race" regarding the party's primary rules.
On the same day, Hong wrote on social media (SNS), "Talking about a two-candidate primary is armchair theorizing by people who do not understand the impeachment presidential race."
He pointed out, "If there is a two-candidate primary, emotions will run high, and after the primary, time will be spent on reconciliation, leading to a crushing defeat in the general election," adding, "You should know that Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung also failed to reconcile after the last presidential primary, and the aftermath is still ongoing."
He then proposed a one-shot four-candidate primary. Hong explained, "If there is a four-candidate primary, it is not difficult to bring in the 3rd and 4th place candidates, and the 2nd place candidate will naturally join."
Meanwhile, the People Power Party's presidential primary election management committee discussed the primary schedule and rules at its first meeting on the same day. They decided to hold the party convention on the 3rd of next month to finalize the candidate for the presidential election. The specific schedule and method for the preliminary primary (cut-off) will be decided at the emergency meeting on the 10th.
