UCLA Hosts Korean Culture Night Event
Yuzu Juice Tasting and Introduction of Major Tourist Attractions
The Jeollanam-do North America Office announced on the 9th that the 'Hanullim Korean Culture Awareness Group' promoted Jeollanam-do's agricultural and marine products, major tourist attractions, and Namdo cuisine at the 'Korean Culture Night' event held at UCLA on the 5th.
The UCLA 'Korean Culture Night' event, now in its 33rd year, is the largest student-led event not only in California but across the United States. It receives enthusiastic responses by showcasing experiences of Korean Americans through performances such as plays, K-pop, and Taekwondo.
Jeollanam-do offered event officials and visitors the opportunity to taste squid tempura snacks and yuzu juice, which are popular items sold at the Jeollanam-do Amazon Brand Hall, and introduced this year's representative tourist attractions and Namdo cuisine.
In 2024, the export value of Jeollanam-do's agricultural and marine products reached $780 million, marking the beginning of the 1 trillion won export era. As of February this year, exports of Jeollanam-do's agricultural and marine products to the United States amounted to $24.6 million, a 49.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Products such as gim (seaweed), pears, beverages, yujacha (yuzu tea), and gochujang are gaining popularity.
Shin Hyungon, Director of International Cooperation for Jeollanam-do, stated, "UCLA Korean Culture Night is a great opportunity to promote the taste and charm of Jeollanam-do in the United States," and added, "We will continue our promotional efforts to raise awareness of Jeollanam-do among Americans and expand the entry of Jeollanam-do's agricultural and marine products into the mainstream US market."
