Candidate Registration on the 14th-15th of This Month
Introduction of "Myeong Taegyun Prevention Clause"
Cutoff Schedule and Method to Be Decided by Emergency Committee
The People Power Party will hold a party convention on the 3rd of next month to finalize the presidential candidate.
On the 9th, the People Power Party's presidential primary election management committee held its first meeting and approved this primary schedule.
Specifically, the election management committee will announce candidate registration on the 10th and accept registrations from the 14th to the 15th. After reviewing the documents for each candidate, the first-round primary qualifiers will be announced at 2 PM on the 16th. The document review is intended to filter out disqualified candidates with criminal records such as drug offenses or sex crimes. Regarding the deposit, it was decided to set a maximum limit of 300 million KRW and adjust accordingly.
Additionally, a Myeong Tae-gyun prevention clause will be introduced. To eliminate unfair disputes related to opinion polls, candidates must report in advance whether they will conduct opinion polls. Ho Jun-seok, spokesperson and election committee member, explained, "To prevent leakage or misuse of the voter list, a person responsible for managing the list must be designated, and a usage ledger must be created and submitted."
The regulation stating that "those who wish to run in the presidential primary must resign from elected party positions at least 1 year and 6 months before the presidential election day" will not be applied in this primary. Accordingly, former party leader Han Dong-hoon is now eligible to run in the primary. Han resigned in December of the same year after being elected party leader in July last year.
The schedule and method for the preliminary primary (cutoff) will be decided at the emergency countermeasure meeting on the 10th. Spokesperson Ho said, "There was a discussion to maximize public interest regarding the primary method," adding, "There was an exchange of opinions on the pros and cons of various options, and the final decision will be made by the emergency committee."
For the main primary, emphasis was placed on maintaining the current party constitution and regulations ratio of 50% party members' votes and 50% public opinion polls. Spokesperson Ho stated, "That part will also be finalized at tomorrow's emergency committee meeting," and added, "Since it is stipulated in the regulations, the final primary must naturally follow the party constitution and regulations."
