Payment specialist Danal announced on the 9th that inquiries from companies about adopting the integrated prepaid electronic payment service (hereinafter referred to as prepaid business) 'White Labeling' are rapidly increasing due to related regulatory changes.
Recently, financial authorities have issued consumer advisories regarding unregistered operations by some prepaid businesses and are working to organize the related market order. This is a measure following the strengthened registration requirements for prepaid businesses under the amended Electronic Financial Transactions Act enacted last September, and it is expected that similar cases will increase in the future.
However, the industry consensus is that it is currently difficult to obtain a new prepaid business license. According to the industry, the review process is expected to take at least six months, so companies already operating prepaid services or preparing to launch may face the risk of suspending operations until registration is completed.
In this situation, 'White Labeling' provided by companies like Danal, which hold prepaid business licenses, is gaining attention as a practical alternative.
White Labeling is an integrated service where Danal performs the issuance and management of prepaid recharge funds on behalf of unregistered prepaid companies. It offers high convenience as it can be easily applied to existing services through API integration, and it also supports linking payment methods necessary for prepaid fund recharging upon contract. This market is a large-scale one, with an average daily transaction amount reaching 1.1664 trillion KRW as of last year, making it a promising new revenue source for Danal.
Danal plans to officially launch the White Labeling service in April and has been accepting pre-registrations since March. Danal explained that inquiries have significantly increased following the financial authorities' strengthened management and supervision.
A Danal representative said, "There are many inquiries from small and medium-sized merchants who find it difficult to meet the license acquisition requirements, and some partnerships have been finalized to provide the service immediately upon launch. Among companies exempt from license acquisition, the adoption of White Labeling is spreading to improve operational efficiency, so the market influence is expected to grow further."
