This donation will be fully used to support the residents of Yeongyang County who are suffering from the massive wildfire, through the Gyeongbuk Community Chest of Korea.
The wildfire, which started in Uiseong County, Gyeongbuk on March 22, spread through Andong, Uiseong, and Cheongsong, and reached Yeongyang County on March 25, causing significant damage with 6,080 hectares of forest burned and seven fatalities.
In response, Yeongyang County is focusing all administrative resources on comprehensive recovery efforts for the affected areas, aiming for swift restoration and the mental and economic recovery of its residents.
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, based on the trust built through the successful bid for the Yeongyang Pumped Storage Power Plant in 2023, has been leading various support initiatives within the region. In particular, the company provided 10,000 bottles of water in the early stages of the wildfire, further establishing itself as a company that grows together with the local community.
Choi Ilkyung, Head of the Construction Project Division at Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, said, "Before coming to the county office, I visited Seokbo-myeon, the site of the damage. I would like to express my deepest condolences to the residents and victims who suffered immense losses," and added, "I hope KHNP can be of some help in the wildfire recovery, and we will continue to stand with Yeongyang County in the future."
Governor Oh Dochang stated, "This donation from KHNP will be a great source of strength for the residents who have fallen into despair, helping them to overcome adversity and rise again. Our county will do its utmost to help residents return to their daily lives, and the donated funds will be used with care for those affected by the wildfire."
