Spring in Gangseo Painted with Light
Media Art, Laser Performances, and Masterpiece Walkway
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) will hold the '2025 Gangseo Spring Light Festa' at Banghwa Neighborhood Park on the afternoon of the 12th. The 'Gangseo Spring Light Festa' is a newly introduced light festival in 2023 that adds beautiful lights to the 'Gaehwasan Spring Flower Festival,' which began in 2008. It was planned to allow visitors to enjoy the beautiful spring scenery more richly.
This year, under the theme 'Light of the Future, New Spring,' the exhibition of light sculptures combines advanced technologies such as media art and artificial intelligence, along with various sound effects, to enhance the immersion of the light exhibition.
The event starts at 3 PM. The district has prepared a variety of busking performances and experiential events throughout the venue for all generations, from children to seniors, to enjoy.
The 'Spring Light Busking' on the plaza stage runs from 3 PM to 6 PM. It features bubble shows using soap bubbles, musical performances, magic shows, and more, which children and families can enjoy together. At the park's sports ground, from 3 PM to 9 PM, nostalgic games such as ttakji-chigi (Korean paper tile game), jegichagi (Korean shuttlecock kicking), and traditional costume experiences will be held.
At the same time, the Gangseo Starlight Space Science Center offers experiential programs themed around 'stars,' including making moon mood lamps and planetary lights, while various experience booths themed on 'spring,' such as flower paper bag and LED flower syrup making, operate in the plaza.
At 7 PM, the opening ceremony will begin, followed by a full-fledged light spectacle. Starting with a choir and musical gala pre-performance on the park's main stage, a lighting countdown and a spectacular laser show will take place. The laser performance, synchronized with AI-generated music, uses the entire forest to create a mysterious and dreamy atmosphere as if the light is blooming.
The main attraction of this festival, the light exhibition, can be enjoyed throughout Banghwa Neighborhood Park. Using LED and laser lighting, interactive light sculptures, and various sound effects, the exhibition enhances the immersive experience of the scenery display.
The light exhibition is set up along a viewing route of about 500 meters. Additionally, spaces themed on 'stars' and 'spring' allow visitors to appreciate various charms of light.
The 'Starlight Zone' is designed as a space where visitors can feel the mysterious atmosphere that light provides. The interactive exhibition space 'Starlight Playground,' the 'Starlight Tunnel,' and the 'Aurora Path' along the forest trail offer a space exploration experience through light interactions responding to visitors' movements, mist spray gates, and hologram installations.
The 'Spring Light Zone' captures the vitality and emotional atmosphere of spring. Patterns and letters using LED lights express the feelings and mood of spring, and the 'Masterpiece Walkway,' which features art pieces illuminated with light matching the festival atmosphere, creates an elegant spring ambiance. The scenic exhibition can be enjoyed not only on the day of the event but also every evening from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM until the 29th of this month.
Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, "I hope this festival, where beautiful light and spring come together, will be a meaningful time that inspires new hope and energy for residents and visitors who have endured the long winter," adding, "Please enjoy the beautiful spring days to the fullest with your family, friends, and loved ones."
Meanwhile, the district has prepared the 'Sagak Sagak Festa,' themed around the four seasons, so that residents can enjoy festivals all year round. The Gangseo Spring Light Festa marks the beginning of this series. In May, the Ujangsan Green Festa will take place; in August, the Summer Night Festival; in September, the Gangseo GoGo (Go古) Festival; and in November, 'Magok Wish Village' will await visitors.
