Self-Payment Reduced from 30% to 20%... Save 8,000 KRW Per Month
Single-Family Homes Now Eligible This Year
Gwangju City will provide subsidies to households in single-family and multi-family residences that wish to install mini solar panels.
The Mini Solar Panel Distribution Support Project aims to realize a '2045 Carbon Neutral Transition Society' by subsidizing the installation costs of mini solar panels for multi-family residences such as apartments. This initiative has been ongoing since 2015. From 2015 to last year, the city supported the installation of mini solar panels in a total of 5,007 households (3 billion KRW).
This year, the Mini Solar Panel Distribution Support Project will expand both the eligible recipients and incentives compared to previous years. Previously, only multi-family residences were eligible, but starting this year, single-family homes can also apply. The self-payment portion has been reduced from 30% to 20%. Additionally, incentives have been expanded to support additional installations for households that have already installed mini solar panels.
The installation cost for one mini solar panel unit (390~445W) ranges from 840,000 to 950,000 KRW, with Gwangju City subsidizing 80% of the cost. Thus, applicants only need to pay 20% (168,000~190,000 KRW).
If multiple households in the same complex participate, an additional incentive of up to 100,000 KRW per household can be received, allowing installation with only 8~9% (68,000~90,000 KRW) of self-payment.
Currently, the average monthly electricity usage for a typical four-person household is about 307 kWh (60,090 KRW). By installing a mini solar panel, approximately 45 kWh of electricity can be generated per month. This is equivalent to the monthly electricity consumption of a 900L refrigerator (about 46 kWh/month), resulting in a monthly savings of around 8,000 KRW.
Applications can be submitted on a first-come, first-served basis through the '2025 Gwangju City Mini Solar Panel Distribution Support Project Household Recruitment Notice' posted in the 'Notices and Announcements' section on the Gwangju City website until November 30. Applicants should check the supply products and self-payment amounts of the professional participating (installation) companies selected by Gwangju City before applying through the companies.
Eligibility requirements are as follows: for single-family homes, applicants must be current or prospective owners of existing or newly built homes. For multi-family residences, applicants must obtain installation consent from the management entity (such as the management office) as defined by the Building Act, and must have a location with excellent sunlight exposure, such as a balcony or the rooftop of a security office, where mini solar panels can be installed.
