Genesis Racing Team Wins Debut Race
Aims to Debut in WEC Hypercar Class This Year
Genesis Racing Team, participating for the first time in a motorsports competition, announced on the 9th that they won the LMP2 class at the opening round of the 2025 European Le Mans Series (ELMS) held in Barcelona, Spain.
The European Le Mans Series serves as a practical testing ground for the world’s top endurance races, including the Le Mans 24 Hours and the World Endurance Championship (WEC). This year’s series started on the 6th of this month and will continue until October, taking place across six countries: Spain, France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Portugal.
Genesis entered this event as a preliminary step ahead of their planned participation in the WEC Hypercar class in 2026. The LMP2 (Le Mans Prototype 2) class features races where standardized chassis and engines are used to minimize mechanical performance differences. It provides practical training for WEC races, including long-duration driving and traffic management required for endurance racing.
This event featured four classes racing simultaneously: ▲LMP2 ▲LMP2 Pro-Am ▲LMP3 ▲LMGT3. Genesis achieved victory in the LMP2 class and secured second place overall.
A Genesis official stated, "We reached the top of the class in our first racing competition while preparing for next year’s WEC Hypercar class participation," adding, "This proves the brand’s competitiveness and potential on the global motorsports stage."

Genesis team driver Jamie Chadwick became the first female driver in the history of the competition to win the LMP2 class. The Genesis Magma Racing Team will continue the season by participating in the 'Le Castellet 4 Hours' race in France on the 4th of next month. In June this year, they will also compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours, the world’s premier endurance racing event.
Cyril Abiteboul, Head of Hyundai Motorsport Corporation and General Director of Genesis Magma Racing, said, "It is amazing and gratifying to win from our very first race," adding, "We will steadily prepare for the rest of the season and show an even stronger performance at Le Mans next year."
Genesis is conducting the 'Genesis Hypercar Project' with the goal of debuting in the WEC Hypercar class in 2026. By participating in this year’s European Le Mans Series, they are accumulating racing operation know-how and endurance technology data, evaluating drivers’ skills, and planning to form an optimized driver lineup for the 'Hypercar GMR-001' prototype.
