Pope Francis, who had pneumonia, is resuming some in-person engagements.
Matteo Bruni, the Vatican spokesperson, announced on the 8th (local time) that the Pope is gradually resuming in-person activities within a limited scope, including meeting with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, the day before.
Earlier, on the 6th, the Pope appeared unexpectedly at the Jubilee closing Mass for the sick and healthcare workers at St. Peter's Square in the Vatican. This was his first meeting with the faithful in two weeks since being discharged from Rome's Gemelli Hospital on the 23rd of last month after treatment for pneumonia and returning to the Vatican.
Although medical staff advised refraining from outside activities for at least two months, the Pope has resumed some activities based on his own judgment.
Additionally, the Pope celebrates Mass daily and handles some duties at the Santa Marta residence in the Vatican. However, the scheduled meeting with King Charles III of the United Kingdom this week has been postponed due to the Pope's health considerations.
