EU and China to Hold Summit in July... Improving Relations Amid Trump Tariffs

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, said on the 8th (local time) during a phone call with Li Chang, Premier of the State Council of China, that "the upcoming EU-China summit in July will be an appropriate occasion to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two sides."

This summit is drawing attention as it is scheduled amid a global trade order shaken by the worldwide tariffs imposed by the Donald Trump administration in the United States.

The EU has maintained an uneasy relationship due to last year's decision to impose high tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and the subsequent retaliatory measures by China. However, since the inauguration of the Trump administration, the EU has been moderating its criticism toward China and seeking to improve relations.
