Next-Generation Drill Ship Developed After Performance Improvement Project
Supports 'EPC Turnkey Contracting' in Marine Business... Strengthening Operations
Hanwha Ocean held a naming ceremony for its next-generation drill ship. A drill ship is a merchant vessel used for exploring oil and gas drilling wells. Hanwha Ocean is set to make a full-scale entry into the deep-sea drilling business with this milestone.
On the 8th, Hanwha Ocean announced that it named the drill ship leased to the Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobras as the "Tidal Action" at the Hanwha Ocean Geoje plant located in Geoje, Gyeongnam. The event was attended by Philip Levy, Head of Hanwha Ocean's Marine Business Division, Clayton Coan, CEO of Hanwha Drilling, Renata Barucci, Director of Petrobras, and Rodrigo Ribeiro, CEO of Constellation, a Brazilian marine drilling specialist company.

Hanwha Drilling formed a partnership with Constellation last year. Constellation signed a long-term charter contract with Petrobras using Hanwha Drilling's drill ship and plans to begin drilling operations in Brazilian waters in the second half of this year.
The drill ship features a design developed in-house by Hanwha Ocean. It can drill up to 12 km deep in waters with a maximum depth of 3.6 km. Notably, it is designed to be equipped with a "Dynamic Positioning System" for stable hull positioning and an "Explosion-Proof Safety Device" for safe drilling operations.
In February last year, Hanwha Ocean established Hanwha Drilling to operate its own drill ships and decided to manage the drill ships independently. The company explained that the delivery of the "Tidal Action" marks a significant milestone in Hanwha Ocean's entry into the marine drilling business. Hanwha Ocean pursues an "EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracting method" in its marine business, and the delivery of this drill ship corresponds to the final stage, "operation."
Philip Levy, Head of the Marine Business Division, said, "Delivering a world-class drill ship and making a full-scale entry into the marine drilling business is a meaningful achievement."
