The Gwangju City Council announced on the 8th that it has published the "Budget Policy Report" to support the legislative activities of its council members.
This is the second edition of the Budget Policy Report, following its first publication in November last year. The 66-page report is composed of sections such as Field Visits, Current Issue Analysis, Budget Policy Trends, and Budget Stories.
The first section, "Field Visits," vividly delivers the results of on-site inspections of Gwangju Urban Railway Line 2, Bitgoeul Startup Station, Bitgreen Workplace Daycare Center, and the City Office of Education's Student Training Center from a citizen's perspective.
In the "A Round of Urban Railway Line 2" segment, the report captures raw stories from construction officials and citizens encountered while walking the entire 37km length of Line 2. It also presents the views of the Special Committee's Office on the status of Phase 1 and 2 construction, citizen inconveniences, and the potential for Gwangju to become a "Daejabo City," as the city has proclaimed.
The report also addresses issues with Bitgoeul Startup Station, which began full operations in December last year as the largest startup hub in the Honam region, as well as the realities and problems of Bitgreen Workplace Daycare Center, which is operated to provide social wage compensation for Gwangju Global Motors (GGM) employees.
The "Budget Policy Trends" section summarizes information provided by the National Fiscal Research Institute, including the 2025 key policies for metropolitan and special cities, changes in local subsidy evaluation standards starting this year, and the 2025 budget support status for professional soccer citizen clubs.
The "Current Issue Analysis" section organizes budget policy data related to Gwangju's low birthrate response projects, support status for single-person households, support for recycling collectors, shared use of public vehicles, and contract-based teachers at the City Office of Education.
The Special Committee Office of the Gwangju City Council first published the "Budget Policy Report" in November last year and received positive feedback. This edition is also available to the public on the council's website (Council News) to help not only council members but also citizens better understand city and legislative affairs.
Hong Giwol, Chairperson of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, said, "With the regular June session approaching, where we will review the 2024 fiscal year settlement and conduct city administration questions, I hope this report will serve as a useful reference for legislative activities."
