A party official said in a phone call with reporters on the 8th, "Once Lee resigns from the party leadership, he may officially announce his presidential candidacy the next day or the day after without delay."
Lee has not made any direct remarks regarding his candidacy so far. It is interpreted that he intends to speed up his election preparations following the impeachment of former President Yoon Seok-youl and the confirmation of the early presidential election on June 3.
Immediately after stepping down from the party leadership, Lee is expected to finalize the appointments for his primary campaign team within the party. The names currently mentioned for the primary campaign appointments include lawmakers Yoon Ho-jung, Kang Hoon-sik, Han Byung-do, and Park Soo-hyun.
