Yongin City Invests 8.4 Billion KRW to Improve Environment in Child Protection Zones

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is expanding its environmental improvement projects in child protection zones around schools. To this end, the city plans to secure a budget of 8.4 billion KRW this year to expand the installation of related facilities.

On the 8th, Yongin City announced that it has established a budget of 8.4 billion KRW to enhance traffic safety facilities within child protection zones and is currently repairing damaged facilities to ensure children's commuting safety.

The facilities targeted for maintenance within the local child protection zones include ▲pedestrian waiting time display devices (35 locations) ▲yellow carpets (13 locations) ▲protective fences (21 locations) ▲LED floor traffic lights (18 locations) ▲pedestrian voice guidance assist devices (4 locations) ▲speeding and signal violation enforcement cameras (6 locations) ▲automatic pedestrian signal extension systems (10 locations), among others.

By August, the city plans to install pedestrian waiting time display devices at 107 elementary school child protection zones in the area and expand stop signs in cooperation with the police station and child protection zones. Additionally, the city will conduct a field survey of 230 child protection zones to identify vulnerable safety sections and issues, and carry out improvement activities concurrently.

Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, "We will explore various measures to protect vulnerable road users such as children and the elderly and expand safety facilities. Through this, we aim to prevent accidents and raise citizens' awareness of safety."
