"Taking Into Account the Victim's Plea for Leniency"
A woman in her 20s who attempted to kill her father by stabbing him with a weapon in front of police officers after he killed her pet dog was sentenced to prison.
On the 8th, the Criminal Division 13 of the Incheon District Court (Chief Judge Kim Ki-pung) announced that A (24, female), who was charged with attempted parricide, was sentenced to three years in prison.
A was charged with attempting to kill her father B (57) by stabbing him with a weapon at a house in Incheon at 3:03 a.m. on December 10 last year.
According to the investigation, A committed the crime out of anger after learning that her father had thrown her pet dog out of the window, killing it.
An hour before the incident, A had assaulted her father, prompting a police patrol car to arrive, and the incident occurred while police officers were inside the house.
The court stated, "The defendant attempted to kill her father by stabbing him with a weapon in front of police officers. Although the crime was only attempted, the victim, who had previously undergone colon cancer surgery, could have lost his life."
However, the court explained the sentencing by saying, "The victim admitted to the crime and showed remorse. The defendant acted impulsively out of anger over the death of a beloved dog, and the victim also pleaded in court to show leniency toward his daughter."
