A Complex Cultural Space for After-School Weekdays
Reflecting Youth Voices, Aiming to Open in March Next Year

Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju is accelerating the expansion of dedicated spaces for youth.

On the 7th, Gwangsan-gu announced that it had secured a total budget of 370 million KRW (326 million KRW from the city and 44 million KRW from the district) after being selected for the "Youth Autonomous Space Expansion Project" hosted by Gwangju City.

The purpose of this project is to remodel idle public facilities and other unused spaces to create shelters and leisure spaces where young people can freely spend time. Following the previously established youth autonomous space in Via-dong, Gwangsan-gu will now set up a new autonomous space on the third floor of Hanam Danuri Sports Center.

Hanam Danuri Sports Center is highly accessible for youth, as it is located near Hanam Elementary School, Jangdeok Middle and High Schools, and several apartment complexes. The building is also equipped with a variety of sports facilities such as a swimming pool and a gym, making it highly versatile.

Gwangsan-gu will begin designing the space after the budget is allocated in May, reflecting the opinions of young people and aiming to open the new space in March next year. District Mayor Park Byungkyu stated, "We will prioritize youth participation to ensure this space becomes a complex cultural hub that supports the health and leisure of young people."
