Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon will declare his candidacy for the presidential election on the 9th, coinciding with his urgent departure to the United States to address tariffs on automobile parts.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 8th that Governor Kim will stay for 4 days and 2 nights (from the 9th to the 12th) in Michigan, the home state of the three major U.S. automobile manufacturers GM, Ford, and Stellantis, starting at 9 a.m. on the 9th at the K counter of Terminal 2 departure hall at Incheon International Airport, to engage in 'tariff diplomacy.'
Before his departure on that day, Governor Kim is scheduled to declare his presidential candidacy on site.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province posted the following text and photo on his SNS on the 8th.
Earlier on the 8th, through his social media (SNS), Governor Kim stated, "The Trump-initiated 'tariff war' has dealt a direct blow to the automobile industry," and added, "The pleas from our automobile industry entrepreneurs I met last week at Pyeongtaek Port were nothing short of a cry for help."
He continued, "If we remain idle like this, small and medium-sized enterprises face the risk of mass bankruptcies," and added, "Similarly, Michigan, where the automobile industry is central, is also experiencing economic and industrial ecosystem shocks due to Trump's tariffs."
He particularly emphasized, "This is an unprecedented crisis that could lead not only our economy but the global economy and industry to mutual destruction," and criticized, "Wasting time now is a clear dereliction of duty."
He concluded, "No public official or politician responsible for the lives of the people can be free from this responsibility."
