Goal to List 10 Promising Companies and Establish or Attract 50 Firms
Daejeon City announced that it will establish and actively implement a "Comprehensive Plan for Fostering the Robotics Industry" to respond to the rapidly changing domestic and international robotics industry environment.
This comprehensive plan presents a vision to create a next-generation robotics R&DB (Research, Development, and Business Commercialization) hub city, encompassing advanced robotics technology research and development (R&D), demonstration, and commercialization.
To realize this, the city has identified four major strategies and 16 key tasks: establishing a differentiated cluster, accelerating technology development, building a cooperative ecosystem, and expanding commercialization and industrialization.
The city plans to invest KRW 128.5 billion over the next five years, starting this year, through national projects and central government public offerings, including the establishment of the core facility, the Robot Drone Support Center.
Through these efforts, the city aims to achieve tangible results such as listing 10 promising robotics companies, establishing and attracting 50 companies, and creating 1,000 jobs in the robotics sector.
Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, said, "Our goal is to transform Daejeon into a next-generation robotics innovation hub where technology, industry, and talent converge, thereby enhancing the quality of life for our citizens. We will closely cooperate with related companies and research institutions and strengthen policy support to ensure these efforts lead to real results."
Meanwhile, the global robotics industry is experiencing rapid growth, with the market size expected to reach approximately KRW 83.278 trillion by 2030. In Korea, as of 2023, the industry’s sales reached KRW 5.9805 trillion, a 1.5% increase compared to the previous year.
