For Public Interest Organizations Such as Universities, Non-Profit, and Non-Governmental Institutions

Upstage is partnering with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to provide artificial intelligence (AI) models free of charge to public interest organizations and educational institutions.

Upstage will offer all of its AI models as APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) to public interest organizations such as universities, non-profit organizations, and non-governmental organizations, including the large language model (LLM) 'Sola' and the optical character recognition (OCR)-based unstructured data structuring solution 'Document AI.' AWS will fully cover the usage fees for cloud-based generative AI solutions and application development.

Upstage's Sola models are LLMs trained on AWS infrastructure and the AI machine learning service 'Amazon SageMaker.' The Sola Pro provided through this initiative utilizes a proprietary Depth-Universal Scaling (DUS) method to enhance GPU efficiency and effectively handle complex tasks.

Universities and non-profit or non-governmental organizations wishing to adopt the Sola model can apply through the official Upstage website starting today. Selected institutions will be able to build generative AI solutions using Sola on AWS from now until March 31, 2026. For organizations lacking AI expertise or utilization capabilities, one-on-one mentoring and related education and practical support will also be provided.

Recently, Upstage has been collaborating with major universities such as Seoul National University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Sogang University, and Yonsei University on research and educational projects. Going forward, Upstage plans to actively foster global AI talent based on the AI Initiative.

Yoon Jung-won, Head of AWS Korea Public Sector, said, "AWS is pleased to collaborate with Upstage through this AI Initiative, and we expect it to have a positive social impact and provide value to Korean society." He added, "AWS and Upstage will combine expertise and resources to build an inclusive and efficient ecosystem that creates sustainable positive change in communities across Korea."

Kim Seong-hoon, CEO of Upstage, stated, "We are delighted to lead public interest AI development together with AWS. Through this initiative, generative AI technology that is changing the world will create meaningful changes not only in corporate innovation but also in education and public interest sectors."

Meanwhile, Upstage and AWS signed a strategic cooperation agreement in June last year and have continued their collaboration. Currently, customers worldwide can access Upstage models through platforms such as 'Amazon Bedrock Marketplace,' 'Amazon SageMaker JumpStart,' and 'AWS Marketplace.'
