Commercialization of Technology Pursued Through MOU With Companies

Comedian Jang Dong-min, inspired by everyday inconveniences, patented an idea and has since collaborated with companies to commercialize the technology. On the 7th, Pureunhaneul, an eco-friendly startup led by Jang Dong-min, announced that it recently signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Kwangdong Pharmaceutical and Samyang Packaging to develop and produce PET bottle labels. The core of the agreement is the patented technology developed by Pureunhaneul called the 'vertical one-touch label separation' method.

Jang Dong-min stated, "The vertical label separation technology is a practical solution that can contribute to solving global environmental issues," and added, "We will devote all efforts to developing technology that allows consumers to easily participate in recycling." This method converts the traditional horizontal PET bottle label into a vertical one, and when the bottle cap is twisted, the label automatically separates. It is designed to reduce the cumbersome process of manually peeling off labels, enabling consumers to participate more easily in recycling. Through this agreement, Pureunhaneul will provide the original patented technology, Kwangdong Pharmaceutical will handle technology commercialization, and Samyang Packaging will be responsible for productivity review and product development. A representative from Kwangdong Pharmaceutical stated, "We will support the technology from various angles to ensure it is realized in actual products."

Jang Dong-min said, "The vertical label separation technology is a practical solution that can contribute to solving global environmental issues," adding, "We will devote all efforts to developing technology that allows consumers to participate easily in recycling." Jang invented the technology in 2021 and completed patent registration in 2022. Based on this, he founded the startup 'Pureunhaneul' in 2023, and in the same year, received the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute Director’s Award (Excellence Award) at the 'Environmental Startup Competition' hosted by the Ministry of Environment, recognizing both the technological achievement and public value.

Previously known as a brain in the entertainment industry, Jang Dong-min has shown strong performances in shows like 'The Genius' and 'Blood Game.' He also won the Asia Poker Tour held in Taiwan in 2024. Recently, he appeared on 'Radio Star' and demonstrated the technology himself. When asked, "What suddenly inspired you to invent this?" he replied, "These days, they tell you to remove the label before throwing it away, but peeling them off one by one was a bit annoying. When you throw away a drink outside the house, you usually just throw it away without separating it, right? That’s when the idea came to me."
