Revitalizing the Local Economy, Promoting Urban-Rural Cooperation
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 8th that it will hold the cozy urban market "Seocho Direct Transaction Grand Market" at the district office plaza and nearby Music Walk from the 10th to the 11th.
Held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday and Friday of every month, the "Seocho Direct Transaction Grand Market" is the only regularly held market among Seoul's autonomous districts, boasting a history of 23 years. In particular, it collaborates with 47 farms from 24 sister local governments, regional agricultural cooperatives such as Namseoul and Gangnam, and the Maljukgeori shopping district in Seocho-gu to showcase excellent local agricultural and marine products. Visitors have been able to purchase various local specialties, receiving great response.
Additionally, the market operates "Seocho Umbrella and Knife on Wheels," which provides umbrella repair and knife sharpening services for only 1,000 won, greatly helping to resolve small inconveniences in residents' daily lives.
The direct transaction market operates from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., featuring major products such as ▲Cheongyang-gun Hanwoo beef and pork ▲Seocheon-gun salted seafood ▲Geochang-gun apples ▲Namwon-si gondre rice ▲Icheon-si puffed rice snacks ▲Dangjin-si bugak (fried seaweed snacks) ▲Yesan-gun hangwa (traditional Korean sweets) ▲Naju-si fermented skate ▲Sancheong-gun Jirisan dried persimmons ▲Gangnam Nonghyup fruits and dried seafood ▲Namseoul Nonghyup gangjeong (traditional sweets) and grains ▲Maljukgeori shopping district fruits and rice cakes for residents.
Meanwhile, Seocho-gu has expanded the "Seocho Direct Transaction Grand Market," which was previously held once a month, to twice a month since August 2022. It plans to continuously discover new farms to provide residents with more diverse and fresh agricultural and marine products.
Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, "The Seocho Direct Transaction Market is a meaningful place where local residents and producers communicate and interact beyond simple goods transactions," adding, "We will do our best to continuously hold the direct transaction market to invigorate farms and the local economy and to activate the win-win relationship between urban and rural areas."
