Guro-gu (Mayor Jang In-hong) announced that it will begin the ‘2025 Protection Zone Improvement and Maintenance’ project to secure safe walkways within child and elderly protection zones.

In February, the district established the ‘2025 Protection Zone Improvement and Maintenance Comprehensive Plan,’ which includes major initiatives such as △comprehensive maintenance of aging child protection zones △improvement of school routes within child protection zones △installation of unmanned traffic enforcement equipment △creation of safe crosswalks △maintenance of facilities in protection zones and connected roads.

This project will invest a total budget of 5.6 billion KRW, including 1 billion KRW from special grants and 4 billion KRW from city funds.

First, starting this month, comprehensive maintenance such as road repairs and installation of traffic safety facilities will begin at Sindorim Elementary School to improve children’s safety and walking environment. Major planned project sites include Segok Elementary School, Hangdong Elementary School, and Guro Elementary School, with protection zones throughout the district to be sequentially maintained.

Additionally, auxiliary facilities such as unmanned traffic enforcement equipment, ground-level traffic signals, and voice guidance devices will be newly installed, focusing on areas with high pedestrian traffic of children and elderly and intersections within protection zones.

Furthermore, the district plans to strengthen accident prevention and pedestrian safety by maintaining pedestrian safety fences within child protection zones, expanding yellow carpets (design partitions, etc.), and road safety facilities.

A Guro-gu official stated, “We expect that this protection zone improvement and maintenance project will secure pedestrian safety within the relevant sections and reduce the risk of traffic accidents,” adding, “We will continue to strive to create a pleasant and safe walking environment within protection zones.”
